Unlocking ETF Trends: Weekly Market Review & MAXLIST Highlights – May 19, 2024

In this video, Pat Walker from Mission Winners shares his insights on using ETFs to identify strong and weak areas in the market. He emphasizes the importance of analyzing daily and weekly charts to understand trends, avoiding the emotional noise of shorter timeframes like 5-minute charts.

Walker breaks down different sectors based on their current strength. Strong sectors include gold miners (GDX), biotechnology (IBB), software (XLE), aerospace and defense (ITA), pharmaceuticals (XPH), NASDAQ 100 (QQQ), and silver (SLV). Mid-caps, small-caps (IWM), and consumer staples (XLP) fall into a neutral category. Weaker sectors include oil & gas (XOP), transportation (IYT), airlines (JAL), retail (XRT), steel, solar (TAN), energy (XLE), financials (XLF), consumer discretionary (XLY), metals & mining, and oil (USO).

Walker recommends focusing on a manageable portfolio of 7-10 stocks and avoiding day trading. He stresses the importance of earnings season and suggests using price alerts to identify potential buying opportunities. Some key technical factors to consider include a strong base, increasing volume, and avoiding stocks with overhead resistance or those that gapped up on Fridays. He also advises against simply buying a stock because it has a green bar on the chart, suggesting viewers analyze the open, high, low, and close prices for a more complete picture. Master Card (MA) is used as an example where a green bar closing low indicates selling pressure. Finally, Walker reminds viewers to be aware of upcoming earnings reports and to avoid being overly aggressive before them, using Nvidia (NVDA) and NVDL as examples.

By combining chart analysis, volume evaluation, and awareness of upcoming events, Pat Walker empowers viewers to make informed investment decisions.
